About The Poet
Lucas Scheelk (they/them) is an autistic nonbinary poet and artist; they’re an antizionist Jew who’s part of the Irish-diaspora.
[pronounced shh-elk - like you’re telling an elk to shh]
While it’s cool to note that they’re a Pushcart Prize nominated poet, they’re a poet because it’s their promise to stay alive.
Scheelk is originally from the so-called Twin Cities on occupied Turtle Island - born in Minneapolis, and raised in St. Paul. They moved to so-called Washington state with their spouse in 2018.
Scheelk also utilizes their Hebrew name Sa’ar Keshet (Rainbow Storm) in artistic spaces.
Scheelk writes and creates art about autistic advocacy, literary accessibility, Little Free Libraries, living with dynamic disabilities, Judaism, finding space within diaspora, queerness, trans and nonbinary identity, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, prior homelessness, trauma, etc.
